XFX RX 580 Black Edition

I have had the pleasure of working with several GPUs throughout my lifetime. I have mostly stuck with Nvidia over the years but did bounce back and forth between AMD and NVidia. Since the launch of Ryzen, I have started liking AMD again. XFX has always been a company I had been eager to check out because of their business model. XFX has a company motto of not just “making great digital components but rather mind-blowing video cards with crushing performance”. XFX is a division of PINE Technology which is a manufacturer of gaming technologies. Today we will be looking at their latest solution from AMD, the RX 580. The 580 is a refresh of the 480, but with the launch of AMD “Vega” on the horizon can this card still find a place in the market? Let’s see if the 580 has anything new to offer Gamers and enthusiasts looking to upgrade their not so old RX 400 series cards.

AMD has “RYZEN” from the ashes! Facing issues from AMDs previous release of Bulldozer back in 2011 has allowed Intel to dominated the mobile and desktop market for many years. Intel has provided small incremental updates of improvements called “Tick/Tock” and We have not seen an AMD performance part capable of standing up against Intel’s top chips until now.

Today we will be looking at AMDs enthusiasts parts the Ryzen 7 lineup which could provide an impressive comeback. Zen was teased last year and it was promised that we would see performance gains over Intel’s best efforts. Zen also promised to bring a new socket type called AM4 with a new core logic.

Now that Ryzen has been released we will be looking at how to overclock the R7 1700 on an x370 chipset and this should apply to the other R7 parts the 1700x and 1800x as well.

Logitech’s primary focus is innovation for peripherals and devices since 1981. Their mission is to help people enjoy a better experience in a digital world. They are not new to gamers, and we will be focusing on that aspect of design in this review. They have an entirely separate department for their G gaming line, and its goal is to improve your skill no matter your experience.

I will be looking at the G533 Wireless headset which features custom drivers and a DTS experience. Logitech has set out to prove to gamers that wireless can be perfect for gaming with zero delays. Let’s see if wireless can deliver the performance we expect and if this headset can provide the advanced audio as advertised.

How To Build an Enermax MATX Gaming PC

enermax-logo

When considering a PC build, you must think about form factor. If space is a major issue, then there are different options available to system builders. ITX and MATX are both small form factor (SFF) motherboard sizes and typically have the misconception that smaller equals less power. This couldn’t be further from the truth, and most modern SFF motherboards pack the same technologies as their bigger ATX brother. Current SFF motherboards can even offer good overclocking performance with adequate cooling.  Today I will be piecing together an MATX system with a focus on Enermax parts. Enermax Technology Corporation was established in 1990 and has grown into all areas of PC hardware and peripherals. This system build will focus on showcasing Enermax while maintaining an SFF profile. If you’re looking to get out of the console space, any gaming PC can beat any current gen console, but as technology grows so does the performance you get with each improvement.  With an SFF system, you can even replace your console entirely with it’s smaller footprint.

Creative Vangaurd & Siege Review

Did you know Creative makes keyboards and mice now? Creative has just launched their new line of peripherals called the Vanguard RGB keyboard and the RGB Siege mouse. Each device sports a unique and competitive design. Creative is mostly known for their superior audio quality and gaming grade audio hardware and I know this because I have had the luxury of testing most of their gaming line of Sound Blaster X products. Creative has taken a bold leap of faith to come this late in the game to gaming keyboards and mice with companies like Corsair and Logitech who have a strong hold on the market. I will be taking a close look at both the mouse and keyboard in this review. Let’s see if the risk of launching a new product line can shake things up a bit and if Creative has what it takes to dominate the peripheral and audio market.

As Creative says: “why stop at just audio?”
